My Europe trip video updates have been slow as I’m transitioning from Openshot to Davinci Resolve and learning everything from scratch (yes, excuses!).
Today, we had no free transport options, so walking was the only way to stay within budget. The plan for the day included:
1) Watching the bells chime and life-sized figures at Marienplatz at 11 am
2) Exploring the Old Town
3) Visiting the Englischer Garten
4) Admiring the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus)
5) Checking out the Endless Staircase
6) Ending the day at Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum
But reality had other ideas. After breakfast at Café Marlene and spending extra time filming, we missed the Marienplatz chiming at 11 am. We also skipped the Englischer Garten because we got sidetracked at Saturn, an electronics store. There, we discovered vinyl records and CDs—KJ couldn’t resist and bought several CDs. Thankfully, we don’t have a turntable at home, or I might have splurged on vinyl, even though they’re quite pricey in Singapore.
The Old Town’s Christmas market wasn’t officially open yet, but many stalls were already buzzing with activity and visitors.
We made it to the Endless Staircase just before sunset at 4:30 pm. Tucked away in a quiet office courtyard at Ganghoferstraße 29A, Olafur Eliasson’s staircase is an Instagram-worthy spot surrounded by vibrant office buildings. Easily accessible from Schwanthalerhöhe subway station (U4 or U5), it’s a short 100-meter walk from there to the KPMG office building. The best part? It’s open for visitors anytime.
By the time we reached the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum, we had only half an hour before closing. In the end, we decided to skip it, saving it for another visit.
While the day didn’t go as planned, it still offered plenty of surprises and memorable moments.
In the end, our route turns out to be:
Marienplatz -> Old town -> New Town Hall (Neus Rathaus) -> Endless Staircase
In winter, the sun sets at 4:30pm and it's completely dark at 5:30pm. However, my body clock kept telling me that it was already 8 or 9pm, and that I should be heading back to my hotel when the sky got dark. At this point, I'm not sure if jetlag had anything to do with it. On our way back to our hotel, we bought some sandwiches and slept early again.
For our 2022 Europe trip, we spent an incredible 12 days exploring the beautiful countries of Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Here’s a day-by-day rundown of how we organized our adventure across these three captivating destinations.
